In Japan, folding fans (sensu) were crafted from paper and bamboo, often painted with delicate landscapes or calligraphy, and were essential in traditional dance and ceremonies. In China, round silk fans known as “round fans” or “song fans” gained popularity, adorned with intricate paintings and embroidery that often reflected nature and seasonal motifs.
